TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – One of the largest shopping malls in the area reports their Black Friday was a busy one and it looks like the crowds continued their holiday shopping through the weekend.

Many stores at The Mall at Barnes Crossing opened Thursday evening, a few hours in advance from the kick off of Black Friday.

The traffic of holiday shoppers looking for great deals was steady not only on Black Friday, but throughout the weekend following the much anticipated night.

Retailers expect the trend to continue with only 24 days left until Christmas.

“This year is the shortest cycle for holiday shopping, with the least amount of days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the International Council of Shopping Centers, they say that the shorter the season, the more productive the sales and that has been true over the years at North Mississippi at the Mall at Barnes Crossing,” said Jeff Snyder, general manager of The Mall at Barnes Crossing.

“It was busy all day Friday, I was kind of surprised, I thought it was coming in big waves, but it was steady until Friday night, I think I checked the last person out at 8 57 Friday night. Then yesterday, it slowed down a little, but I think everybody was probably asleep, probably had spent all their money, but people were still shopping, it was a good Saturday too,” said Carrie Hancock, owner of “Yellow Lovebirds.

While Black Friday draws the biggest crowds for retailers, shoppers spend the most money the Saturday before Christmas, also known as “Green Saturday.”
