COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Taking the first driving lessons or getting a license is an exciting time for most teens but one organization says keeping teens safe is the number one priority.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States. DREAM, Inc’s Highway Safety program is working with public and private schools across the state to increase awareness about the dangers of driving. Students at Heritage Academy participated in trivia game show program designed to teach students the do’s and don’ts of driving safely.

“The big thing is the speeding, the drunk driving and the texting. Combine all three, you’ve got a major problem, you’ve got a major weapon going on there. Especially for students who have not been on the road that long,” says Alan Weiner of “Think Fast” Interactive, that facilitates the game.

The interactive program is also sponsored by the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety and Mississippi Nissan.
