LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A domestic dispute escalates as a Saltillo man is accused of trying to burn down a house while his wife and two kids were inside.

34-year-old Nathan Cron is charged with one count of first degree arson, and three counts of domestic violence aggravated assault.

Authorities say last week Cron and his wife had been arguing, and when she went to sleep, he set fire to a mattress in their home on County Road 931.

The woman escaped, then called a neighbor, who helped rescue the couple’s two children, ages 10 and 14.

“A lot of times you don’t see what goes on in a home and this right here tells you how quick it can escalate and then on top of that it’s one of the most dangerous calls a law enforcement officer can answer and you can see when someone goes to this degree and decides to cause this type of serious injury or death to someone, they’re pretty much without reason to rationalize with,” Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said.

Cron’s bond was set at $300,000.
