LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Christmas is still five months away, but a special visitor helped some Louisville children get ready for school.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as 110 kids and their parents gather at the Shrine Club in Louisville.

After the impact of the EF-4 tornado that ripped through Louisville, the Pilot Club wanted to help those who are usually forgotten.

“A lot of times the children are overlooked and these children lost their precious possessions too. SO one of our members came up with the idea of doing Christmas in July. So we could try to help the children get back some of their toys and thing that they lost,” says Kathy Sinclair.

Each child received school supplies, a new toy and Walmart gift cards to help with other needs.

And who better to bring these free gifts than old Saint Nick himself.

He even brought his favorite treat.

“I did make it a little cooler coming down from the north but it’s something I really wanted to do to make the children happy that they are getting their toys replaced,” says Santa Claus.

Single mother, Amanda Burdine says the Christmas theme gives the children in the community hope.

“It kind of gets them all excited and gets their mind off of the tornado and everything,” says Amanda Burdine.

Burdine’s home was heavily damaged during the storm so small gifts as school supplies really helps in a time of need.

“It’s really a blessing because I have three children so it’s very nice for everybody to give back. It’s kind of overwhelming most of it,” says Burdine.

“At least they are giving back to the community cause a lot of kids lost everything and some of them had all their hopes and dreams and stuff. They had gotten discouraged so i’m just glad they are helping them out” says Shelisa Miller.

It’s still five months away from Christmas, but it’s never too early to spread a little Christmas cheer.

Other Pilot Clubs gave donations including one club from Japan.
