COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus residents are learning how to stay safe, while supporting a good cause.

On Saturday, the Columbus police department hosted a self defense class.

Taekwondo instructor Oliver Miller showed participants how to defend themselves if they ever get in a bad situation.

Donations from the self defense class will go toward the police department’s annual toy drive.

Organizers say taking a class like this is very important, especially this time of year.

Officers say this toy drive benefits 300 needy children throughout the city.

They plan to have more events this holiday season to continue to raise money for the drive.
