VIDEO: Seniors Say Goodbye Before School Consolidation

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) –As the senior class at East Oktibbeha County High SChool prepares to walk across the stage, the rest of the students are preparing to say goodbye as well.

The class of 2015 will be the last to graduate from what used to be known as B.L. Moor because next year they will be consolidated with Starkville High School.

“They taught me all I need to know and they prepared me for the world, for the next step and I love it. I love my teachers, all the relationships with my classmates and my friends,” says Tatiyana Wilson.

Like most seniors Wilson is mapping her next step. Her path includes nursing school at Georgia State University.
She will be one of the last students to become an alumni of East Oktibbeha County High School, it will merge with Starkville in August.
Wilson says even though her school won’t exist, her pride always will.
” Let them know I’m from East Oktibbeha County and I’m proud to be from there,” says Wilson.

Moses Hall signed to play basketball Friday, he’s probably the last to ever sign from the soon to be shuttered school
He used to go to Starkville High and says the bittersweet change is for the best.

“lm kind of glad they’re going to Starkville to consolidate, it will be better for them, ” says Hall.

Better or not, it’s still hard for these students, as many come from a long line of East Oktibbeha County High School alum.

“My grandmas went out here. It’s just not gonna feel right without the school being out here,” says Jabari Bush.

Bush will now go to medical school at Florida Institute of Technology, a goal he says he reached, thanks to the great education he received.>

East Oktibbeha Seniors will be joined with the seniors from West Oktibbeha High when they graduate May 23rd .

West is also closing because of the consolidation.
