COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus man collapses and has to be taken to an emergency room less than two hours before he is expected to testify in his own defense. 42-year-old John Knight is trying to convince a Lowndes County Circuit Court jury he is not guilty of sexually assaulting a girl when she was 12 in 2007. The girl is now 20. Knight is representing himself and told Lowndes Circuit Court Judge Jim Kitchens he planned to testify this afternoon. But just before noon he became ill. He returned to court at about 3-30 but Kitchens recessed the trial until 9 Saturday morning. If convicted, Knight faces a long prison sentence as a habitual offender because he has prior burglary and weapons convictions.
