TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Shoppers in Mississippi will get more bang for their buck on some items this weekend.

The annual “sales tax holiday” runs today through Saturday .  Items exempt from sales tax include clothing and footwear items, meant to be worn next to the body and costing less than $100  per item.

Retailers say the sales tax holiday comes at a great time as many families are shopping for back to school clothes. Early Friday afternoon, Tupelo’s Mall at Barnes Crossing had large crowds.

“We are fortunate enough to have many, many retailers here that cater to back to school apparel, all price ranges, all styles, you can get it here, and normally back to school they will run , say a 40 percent discount and then you throw the extra tax money on top of that, you’ve got really some good savings and incentives for those sending kids back to school to make purchases,” said Jeff Snyder, manager of the Mall at Barnes Crossing.
