STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -A local sorority and fraternity team up to serve the Starkville community on MLK Day.

Starkville chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha held a “community soup and sandwich luncheon” at the Brickfire Center.

The groups wanted to provide a hot meal to children in the area who would be out of school and their families.

Dozens from the community enjoyed the food and the company.

“We just don’t want to take the day off and do nothing. We want to show that we are being encouraging…that we are being giving to the community in which we live. We want to show we are being some service doing something that will encourage others to serve the community.”

Several local restaurants donated food and manpower to the program.
