Video: Starkville Alderman and Mayor to get Pay Raise?

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman says now is not the time to raise the salaries for elected officials. Alderman are expected to consider a recommendation for the city’s audit and budget committee to increase the salaries of the Mayor and aldermen at Wednesday (1-2-13) nights meeting. Wiseman says while he won’t intervene if alderman vote to raise their own salaries, he will veto any recommendation to raise the Mayor’s salary. The budget recommends raising the Mayor’s salary from $60,000 dollars a year to $71,500 a year. Compensation for alderman would go from $12,000 to $15,000 per year. If approved, the raises would take effect October 1st. Starkville alderman’s last pay raise was in 2005.
