STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville Aldermen met Tuesday night to handle a pressing matter.

The special call meeting was needed to name a replacement for outgoing Starkville School Board President Eric Heiselt.

The move required prompt action, due to the impending merger of the Starkville and Oktibbeha County School Districts.

Heiselt had recommended Eddie Myles, who also had the support of the Mayor. But there was some dissent on the Board.

Myles was confirmed on a 3-2 vote, with Lisa Wynn casting the lone nay vote citing concerns for county citizens.

“The Oktibbeha County School District and their parents do not have representation on our board here with the Starkville School Board of Trustees presently . There were 5 members; one has resigned, and that left 4. All of these appointments those that are appointed live here in our city. They are not living in the county. So, I wanted our children and their parents to have a representative on the board from the county.”

“People just actually who comes from the county. Who comes to the gym to work out knows me as a person; knows my character; knows that I am loyal to whatever I do. I am passionate about kids”
Alderman Jason Walker recused himself from the vote.  The merger of the Starkville and Oktibbeha County School Boards is effective tomorrow.
