STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It was standing room only Tuesday night at the Starkville Board meeting where officials considered banning cell phone use during board meetings. Ward 6 Alderman Roy Perkins introduced the cell phone ban resolution but board members voted four to three against the restriction. The board then unanimously voted to amend the resolution to enforce current rules about cell phone usage. Cell phones would have to be turned off or silenced during meetings so that they aren’t a distraction. This resolution was a cause for concern for some citizens who thought the ban may have been a restriction on freedom of speech.
