STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A contractor and the City of Starkville likely are headed to court over a major drainage project.

But residents who’ve waited more than 30 years for relief still will get it.

Last spring, the city awarded Hattiesburg-based Precision Construction a $678,000 contract to improve drainage along Carver Drive. But the company now claims the city owes $163,000 for extra work that was required.

The city says aldermen never approved the changes.

The company has walked off the job, which is about 95 percent complete.

Mayor Parker Wiseman says they likely will end up in court, but the city will complete the project before this spring.
