STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A very special one-of-a-kind citizen of Starkville has passed away. Carole McReynolds Davis, who died of natural causes at her Starkville home, is going to be sorely missed by all who knew her.

At Starkville Café on Main Street, a signature hat worn by Carol McReynolds Davis Thursday is draped over the door of the place she often frequented with her husband Frank for breakfast and lunch.

“Everybody that she came in contact with was touched by her warm good-hearted spirit,” said Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman.

“Oh gosh, I mean she is Starkville’s darling,” said John Peeples with Starkville Café.

Known by all the regular customers at the Starkville restaurant, a cheerful Davis brought a smile into the establishment, and always left behind a little bit of herself in the process.

“Now these paintings on the wall, she did all of these. Oh, yeah, these are some of her renderings from the art that she has done over the years,” said Peeples.

“And she knew a way to paint scenes that told the unique story of this community like no one else ever has or ever will again,” said Wiseman.

This week a very special section of the cafe is left vacant in her honor.

McReynolds Davis and her husband Frank even celebrated their 50th anniversary at Starkville Café.

“This restaurant was a big big part of their life. And they just thought that you know, what better way, or better place to have an anniversary celebration than here,” said Peeples.

Even the clientele at the café say they will miss the cheerful lady with the bright hat, who always placed her order with a loving smile.

“She might want her large oatmeal, toast, biscuits, give me my full breakfast today Shirley I got a big day today. And she would always come in with a smile. She was always nice. She always told everybody how much she love them,” said Waitress Shirley Ross.

“Starkville is really going to miss her. I mean you can’t help but miss your number one cheerleader,” said Peeples.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Starkville in the CLC Center. The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the church.
