STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville police are cracking down on underage drinking.

They’re one of many police departments across the state participating in Operation Sticker Shock.

Starkville officers and several students spent the afternoon stopping by local businesses – putting underage drinking stickers on doors and cases of alcohol.

They’re sending a message that it’s illegal to sell or buy alcohol for anyone younger than 21.

Organizers say it’s good to involve the kids, when raising awareness about the cause.

“It gives them a sense of ownership, and also great volunteer experience for them to also spread the message,” said De’Marco Fomby, a youth highway safety specialist with DREAM, Inc. “It shows them and gives them a sense of responsibility and entitlement to actually own the issue.”

The program is a partnership between the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety and DREAM, Inc.
