STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Starkville schools are doing their part to make deployed soldiers feel the Christmas spirit. The Starkville School District is participating in the Gift From Home initiative. Students today packed boxes chock full of food and various amenities to ship off care packages to nine active duty soldiers. Officials say the goal was to bring a little taste of home to service members overseas.

“It sends Christmas care packages to soldiers who are deployed, and it’s a really big deal because morale is a really big issue, and these packages help to build that bit of morale. It gives you a little bit of home when you’re away and you can’t be home for Christmas.”

Students finished the care packages this afternoon at Starkville High School.
