STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Hundreds of people put in some elbow work to spruce up Starkville before the Bulldog’s home opener with LSU.

Teams of volunteers had their rakes and shovels ready to work all across town Wednesday morning. The annual “Get Swept Up” event cleans up the area before thousands of football fans arrive.

The Greater Starkville Development Partnership and area businesses make “Get Swept Up! possible.

“It’s one event where the whole community rallies together for the same cause. We are always so excited because 1-thousand visitors means economic impact to our community and so everybody is so excited and its just really kicks off the fall season in the best way possible.”

“We love living here and we want to keep it clean and it brings in industry and new people when they come visit at football games. They see cleanliness. They see how awesome Starkville is, is your first impression.”

About 500 people participated in today’s event.
