COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Write-in campaigns are unusual; however, candidates are eligible in the District 41 State representative race. Because of Esther Harrison’s passing, state law allows write-in votes to count. This gives voters the right to choose the person they want, by writing their name on the ballot.

“That’s the thing I would emphasize is if you want to write in a candidate, um, choose someone who, you know, has announced that they would like to be a candidate for the position and made sure that you know how to spell the name correctly, and that will help us election night, but regardless all those votes will be counted.”

Poll workers are expecting write-in votes and will be prepared.
