COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — State fire inspectors could be in Columbus as early as Tuesday to begin their search for a cause of a fire that destroyed a Columbus fireman’s home.

Meanwhile, Captain Michael Scott Swain, his wife and two children are still trying to come to grips with the fire that destroyed most of their possessions in their home on Moore’s Creek Road, just off the Columbus Riverwalk.

Swain was on duty at Station 1 when the call came in about 5:30 p.m. Saturday for his units to respond to the fire. His wife and children were away from home at the time. They had insurance and have received help from the Red Cross.
