LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — One of Lowndes County’s busiest local roads may get some relief after years of discussion.

Last year, the county got South Lehmberg Road from Highway 182 to Yorkville Road added to the list of streets eligible for state aid. The county has a little money left in its state aid fund but growth in state revenues may pump as much as $32 million into the system.

If Lowndes County can tap into that money, local leaders hope to make widening and paving South Lehmberg a priority within the next year.

County supervisors today authorized County Engineer Bob Calvert to start pursuing plans and additional revenue for the project.
