STURGIS, Miss. (WCBI) — The sounds of motorcycle engines revved up are being heard once again in Sturgis.

The rally is back after a long 4-year interruption. Thousands of bikers are expected to be in the mainly 3-county area for the 3-day event, which began with registration early Friday morning.

Bikers are staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, and shopping in stores of Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Winston Counties, and elsewhere. They once again are pumping monies into our local economy.

Hundreds of bikers ate dinner Friday evening at Village Cycle Center in Oktibbeha County. In 2005 some 20,000 people attended the event.

Many factors sparked the end of the rally in 2010, but those differences are being put aside.

The first motorcycle rally in Sturgis was held in 1997.
