STURGIS, Miss.(WCBI)–A West Oktibbeha Elementary school classroom is turned into a civil rights museum.

Some fifth graders having researched influential icons of the civil rights era have them displayed on poster board for all to see. The hard work is not going un noticed.

The school and family members of students were able to browse the museum highlighting changes during the 1960’s era.

“I did mine on Ella Baker, Thurgood Marshall, Nelson Mandela, and Mrs. Mary Bethune,” said Zykerius Ford/WOES Student.

“I did Homer Plessy, and I did Lyndon Johnson, and Herman Boone. And I was the only one that did herman Boone,” said Cliff Files/WOES Student.

It took the students about a month and a half to research and prepare their displays.
