TUPELO, Miss.(WCBI)–The complaints are all too common this time of the year. Summer allergies are causing some sniffling, sneezing, watery itchy eyes and more.

A couple of weeks into Summer and a yellow haze can be seen on beautiful flowers and trees.

“Sometimes depending on the climate late February to March and then grasses come out about two to four weeks later. And they are out for most of the Spring and Summer. So most of the seasonal symptoms that people have this time of year are due to those allergens,” said Dr. Matt Oswalt/Asthma-Allergy Specialist.

The unpleasant physical conditions are triggered by foods, drugs, or environmental factors such as pollen.

“You know we’re seeing a lot of allergy, allergic rhinitis which would ne nasal symptoms due to allergic conditions. Allergic ocular eye symptoms and then asthma,” said Dr. Matt Oswalt.

Be mindful these Summer symptoms, if left untreated could become life threatening.

“Someone even dies from asthma every day in the United States. So its a very serious condition and needs to be controlled,” said Dr. Matt Oswalt.

Experts say the further you go south….the worse your condition.

“Just because of the temperate climate you know definitely our allergy seasons are longer than in some areas of the country. So I think you know you may see that throughout the southeast Mississippi obviously is part of that region,” said Dr. Matt Oswalt.

Seeing that the long hot Summer has just begun, those experiencing symptoms of allergic diseases and asthma will have to endure if only for a season.

We are told the key solution is to avoid what triggers a reaction. Secondly, the conditions can be controlled by medications and or injections.
