West Point, Miss. (WCBI) — Hopes of reviving Clay County’s misdemeanor drug court dies again on a three-two vote.

Clay County Supervisors voted not to reinstate what some see as a successful drug court program. Supervisors still are not ready to pick up the costs if fees and state funds ran out. In three years the program has graduated about 100 low-level drug offenders having made bad choices. At today’s board meeting drug court director Edward Houston voiced concern and disappointment.

“You know going back and forth to Jackson and trying to find out and talk to people in the community, what they want to try to do. You know to have and helping people. So you know right now it’s a sad day but we are just going to keep on going and see what else we can do,” said Edward Houston/Drug Court Director

Supervisors could still vote to reinstate the misdemeanor drug court program but it has to be before a September 13th deadline.
