VARDAMAN, Miss. (WCBI) — Last year, sweet potato farmers planted their crop late, but this year, everything is right on schedule.

Farmers and their workers are planting their last bundle of sweet potatoes.

Once they are in the ground, it takes up to one hundred and twenty days for the vegetables to be perfect for harvesting.

Many farmers believe this year’s crop will thrive as long as the the weather provides the right conditions.

“Sweet potatoes can stand a drought a little more than other crops, but it still needs a drink of water along the way and hopefully we will get some timely rains and make everything go off great,” says Perry Bailey.

Sweet potatoes offer many health benefits including vitamin B6 and Vitamin C.
