AMORY, Miss. (WCBI)-Some Amory High School students get to see how truly dangerous texting while driving can be.

Students and teachers partnered with the Mississippi Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and the National organization for Youth Safety to educate young people about the dangerous trend. Students had to drive a golf cart while texting and staying within specifically marked lines. It wasn’t easy.

“I think texting and driving is a form of distracting driving and distractive driving is one of the top causes of death in teens. So I think it’s very important they learn how dangerous it is so they don’t do it in the future,” says Wes Colbert.

“The simple fact that it can wait. It’s not worth dying over a simple text message like LOL, Yeah, and okay. So we just want to stop everything and make our environment peaceful and safe,” says Tyson Eddie.

16 to 24 year olds use their cell phones while driving more than any other age group.
