COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A local business owner says he’s going to rebuild his business after a fire destroyed it in December.

What is now an empty lot used to be the “Butcher Shop.”

Crews have gotten rid of the charred debris and leveled the property.

The building caught fire the week of Christmas.

Investigators say an electrical problem caused the blaze.

Owner Bill Mason says over 250 Christmas orders weren’t filled this past holiday season, but that hasn’t stopped customers from showing their support.

“Just amazing the feedback from my customers and people that are friends and some people I don’t even know. I went to a grocery store the other day and we blocked an aisle with so many people gathered around me, wanting to talk about it and showing sympathy for what happened to us and boosting us along,” Mason said in a statement to WCBI.

Mason is hoping to have “The Butcher Shop” up and running by early summer.
