MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Guns, ammo and a lot of cash, that’s what Monroe County investigators found buried in the woods.

It began on December 17th when nearly $200,000 went missing from a Smithville home. The money was one man’s life savings and the one’s who took the money are still on the loose.

“I’ve never seen that much money at one time in my life,” said Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.

That’s the reaction of Sheriff Cantrell to the nearly $150,000 his investigators found buried in the woods.

The money was taken from a Smithville home in a recent burglary.

Sheriff Cantrell says multiple tips led the deputies to the woods, where the money was hidden.

“Just some hard, hard work day and night. And actually, we found this money buried off Dill Road in the Mt Zion Community,” said Sheriff Cantrell.

Deputies are looking for Tiffany Swartz, Willie Stanford and Ethan Stanford. The three suspects they believe are responsible for the burglary.

Sheriff Cantrell has one message for the trio.

“And send a message to these criminals, If you break into someone’s house, we’re going to do everything we can to solve the case and bring you to justice. It’s a great thing we can do that because that’s what the people of Monroe County elected me to do, be their Sheriff and take care of these problems,” added Sheriff Cantrell.

The money and other items will be returned to its owner, longtime Smithville resident, Allen Duncan.

He says he is thankful to see his life savings money once again.

“Prayers have been answered for everyone that’s prayed for us and also for our servicemen that has put extra time in through the holiday’s, took away from their family at the time of holiday’s, just an extreme blessing from the Lord,” said Duncan.

One juvenile, connected to the case, is currently in custody.

If you have any information on where the three suspects are, call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department at 662-
