Video: Tippah County Authorities Locate Body of Pontotoc Man After Drowning Day Before

TIPPAH COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Search crews have found the body of a Pontotoc County man who drowned in a Tippah County lake.

Tippah County Sheriff Karl Gaillard says the body of 19-year-old Jay Shirley of Ecru was recovered just before 8 a.m. today.

Gaillard says Shirley was wading across a narrow portion of Dumas Lake Wednesday afternoon with an 8-year-old child on his back.

Shirley was able to hand the boy to another person before going under, but not coming up.

Search crews looked for the body until sunset Wednesday before resuming the search this morning.
