AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) –  Insurance claims are filed and clean up is complete from the Memorial Day tornado that hit Amory.

A number of homes in the city were damaged when trees fell as the twister moved through.

Two tornadoes hit Monroe County on that day, damaging 65 homes.

Mayor Brad Blalock says the utility, street, and sanitation departments have worked hard to clear the streets from debris.

“We are very nearing completion of the clean up efforts. We have still got some larger stumps and root balls to take care of but for the most part we are, I would say 90% done with our clean up efforts.”

Blalock says volunteers, along with the cities of Columbus and Tupelo and Monroe and Lowndes Counties have helped make the clean up process easier.
