COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The $2 million renovation of the Trotter Convention Center in downtown Columbus won’t make its end-of-the-year deadline.

But it could open for its first event in months by the third weekend in January even if some work still remains.

City leaders will review the work early next week to make a master list of what remains.

Some of the major work includes completing the new front entrance and canopy, guard rails on the main balcony, a check of the sound system and some minor plumbing and tile work. The entrance remains the biggest roadblock because weather and the holidays have delayed brick work and steel for the new canopy hasn’t arrived.

The city has cancelled a Jan. 10 event at the center.
