TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The City of Tupelo has approved its 2016 budget. The Council unanimously approved a 34-million dollar general fund at it’s meeting tonight. The city was able to come in with a balanced budget. In fact with the current rate of sales receipts they expect to come out with a 200-thousand dollar budget surplus. Mayor Jason Shelton says this year’s spending tops last year’s by 900-thousand dollars due to the fact that Fiscal year 2016 has an extra pay period, and that the city gave every employee a 2-percent cost of living raise.
