TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — No one plan fits all. That’s why Tupelo mayor Jason Shelton wanted to hear from leaders of the city’s various neighborhood associations about their ideas of revitalizing the city. At tonight’s public hearing the mayor stressed that the leaders of each area of town best know the needs of their neighborhoods.

“Every neighborhood is not the same,” said Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton. “So, if you enact a city wide plan you’re wasting resources if what you’re doing is not needed in one part of the city but it’s greatly needed in another part of the city. So that’s why we want the individualized approach to the revitalization of the city of Tupelo.”

Shelton says Tupelo is fortunate to have great community leaders who are passionate about the revitalization of their neighborhoods and the city as a whole. They plan to hold similar citywide neighborhood association meetings the third Monday of each month.
