TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -As a growing number of towns across Mississippi are removing the state flag from city-owned buildings, Tupelo city leaders are taking a measured approach.

Mayor Jason Shelton says the city is paying attention to what’s going on nationwide and with other towns in Mississippi.

The state flag discussion is likely to come up at the next council work shop.

“In Tupelo we wanted to be united and have one voice and work through the process with the council member, the public, the administration and then do what’s best for the city of Tupelo.”

The city of Starkville is preparing to address the flag debate at the next board of aldermen meeting.
