TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A cellular phone company, a shelter for abused women and families along with Tupelo are joining forces to raise awareness of domestic violence.

This morning at Fairpark, the Don’t Let Domestic Violence Coast campaign kicked off. The initiative features drink coasters with domestic violence statistics and resources for those requiring assistance.

The coasters will be used at dining tables at participating restaurants in the downtown Tupelo Main Street district, and organizers hope the campaign encourages people to seek help if they, or someone they know, is a victim.

“There’s a QR code on the coaster. You can scan that and resources will come directly to your smartphone, so it will give you help and hope,” Lori Singleton with Verizon said. “It might not be you, maybe it’s a friend you have who has this issue going on, and you can provide that resource for them.”

This is the second year for the coaster campaign.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
