TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Residents in one Tupelo neighborhood may soon have some help resolving flooding and drainage issues.

The Tupelo City Council has approved an engineering study that will look at drainage issues in the Sharon Hills neighborhood.

Residents say drainage issues have worsened since the April 28 tornado. Many of the trees which helped absorb and slow runoff from heavy rainfall were destroyed.

Complaints to the city have increased since the tornado, and now engineering firm Civil-Link has been approved to conduct a $15,000 drainage study. The study will examine drainage areas and look at current and potential drainage concerns.

Officials say results of the study will help determine how to best fix the problems.
