TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo City Councilmen kick off budget discussions with a bang.

Councilman Willie Jennings walked out of budget study session Wednesday after seeing that a splash park he wanted for Theron Nichols Park was absent from next year’s proposed capital projects budget, but one was left in for another park.

Jennings said the splash park had been discussed for months. The $18 million budget did include a community center and storm shelter at Theron Nichols. The budget also includes $10 million for a new police headquarters and money for street paving. But council members say the paving budget needs to be expanded to catch up on bumpy city streets.
