TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The City of Tupelo wants to encourage minority owned businesses to seek out projects that can earn them valuable opportunities. That was the focus of a recent contractor symposium held at the Bancorp South Arena.

The city worked with Schneider Electric to give contractors some valuable tips on how to bid for projects. Tupelo Parks and Recreation Director Alex Farned says the city is involved in a great many projects aimed at beautifying and bettering the quality of life in the city.

“We want to broaden the knowledge and let some more of these minorities know that this is out there and there is opportunities out for them to be a part of these great projects that Tupelo brings to the table,” he says.

Farned says the city is always trying to expand and will look for qualified minority contractors in the local area to bid on the projects.
