TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Several first responders in the Tupelo area won’t be hungry for awhile.

Representatives from the Tupelo Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Department and the Tupelo Police Department took part in a hamburger eating contest at Mugshots Grill.

Contestants had 12 minutes to eat “The Mugshot.” That is the restaurant’s biggest burger, with three patties, six strips of bacon, cheddar and swiss cheese, french fries an onion ring and all the other trimmings.

Though no one finished it all, Fire Marshal Jason Cross came the closest.

“Well, to me it is just, goes along with being a firefighter, anything we can do to help the community, whether it’s on duty or off, we’re all about it.”

The event kicks off “Tupelo’s Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive. The police, fire and sheriff’s departments are competing to see who can bring in the most blood donors Wednesday and Thursday at the Bancorpsouth Arena.
