Video: Tupelo Girl to Compete in National Scripps Spelling Bee

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Tupelo middle schooler is spelling her way to the top.

After a big win this weekend,11-year-old Maria Kaltchenkco will now compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

She beat 48 opponents at the Mid-South Spelling Bee in Memphis, Saturday.

Her winning words? She spelled hydrography, and tardigrade back-to-back for the win.

The National Scripps Spelling Bee is in May.
