TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — One of Tupelo’s own will be honored at the Tupelo-Lee County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chapter’s annual banquet this weekend.

The new award, the Jack Reed Sr. Race Relations Diversity Award, will go to its first recipient Saturday night at the Augustus Ashby Sr. Freedom Fund Banquet.

Reed was a longtime businessman, and was an advocate not only for public education, but positive race relations, as well.

Organizers established the award to highlight those making an impact in Tupelo’s efforts to diversify the city.
