TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – During Monday’s State of the City Address, Tupelo Mayor Jaason Shelton recognized the seven council members, and praised them for working in unity .

A majority of the council are Republicans, and Mayor Shelton is a Democrat. Still, Shelton said each issue is studied, discussed and debated in a civil manner.

Council President Mike Bryan says even when disagreements arise, council members and the mayor focus on the best interests of the entire city.

“The only thing I would probably say that Mayor Shelton, as a Democrat, is very conservative Democrat as far as spending wisely, most Democrats are not conservative in their spending and Mayor Shelton is.”

This is Bryan’s third term on the Tupelo City Council.
