Video: Tupelo Mayor Explains Curfew Decision

TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) Issuing a citywide curfew is a serious matter and is not taken lightly by government officials. This afternoon, Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton, along with other city leaders decided the dangerous road conditions meant a curfew was necessary.

The curfew applies to all residents and allows for emergency travel only.

Mayor Shelton says while major streets may be accessible, secondary streets could be troublesome for motorists.

“We’ve got all of the resources of public works, the snow plows, salt and sand and different things they use but they can only do so much in such an amount of time and the intensity of snow earlier was kind of fighting an uphill battle, now snow has stopped and crews are going to work all night long through tomorrow and as long as it takes to get the roads cleaned.” says Shelton.
