TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – The iconic Reed’s Department store in downtown Tupelo has a tribute to Jack Reed Sr.

White bows adorn doors at the landmark store. The ribbons were put up this afternoon.

Reed’s has been in the same location for more than 100 years, and last year, on Mr Reed’s 90th birthday, a party was held at the store.

Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton was able to give Mr Reed something he had never received before.

“I was very honored to be able to present Mr Reed a key to the city of Tupelo. Of all the awards and accolades, that he has received, state, and national recognition, I was very surprised to learn he had not been publicly presented a key to the city of Tupelo,” Mayor Shelton said.

A display in the lobby of city hall features an article from LOOK magazine on Tupelo’s first designation as an All American City in 1967. Mayor Shelton says Reed was instrumental in that honor.
