TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Construction will soon begin on new classrooms at two Tupelo Public Schools, along with renovations at other facilities.

Recently, voters overwhelmingly approved a bond package of up to 44 million dollars to fund upgrades, renovations and repairs at every building in the district.

Tupelo Middle School will get four to six new classrooms as part of the bond package. Also, security cameras will be placed at each elementary school and the roof will be replaced at the Fillmore Center.
“The roof, of course, we have had leaks in the past, several of our rooms, it’s an old building, old vo tech, hadn’t had a new roof in a long time so that’s going to benefit our students and staff here to have a dry building, and also security, not only for students and staff here, parents, anyone that comes , cause we have support service here and other departments here as well as food service.”

The roof will be replaced this summer, other projects will likely start in the fall and continue through 2019.
