Video: Tupelo Park And Rec Donates Funds From Bracelet Sales To Autism Center

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A month long effort through Tupelo’s Park an Rec office brings in hundreds of dollars for the Autism Center of North Mississippi.

All this month, Tupelo’s Park and Rec department has sold “autism awareness” bracelets for five dollars. It was part of an effort to recognize “Autism Awareness Day” on April 2nd, and help the only treatment and counseling center in the area for those with autism.

This afternoon,  park and rec leaders, along with Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton, presented a check for 700 dollars to the Autism Center of North Mississippi.

“This seven hundred dollars will help cover a family’s , over a month of therapy, we have more than 34 children who come twice a week to receive therapy by a behavioral analyst and some families really struggle to cover the cost, even though it’s low cost, we reduce the cost to all families, but some really struggle,” said Brittany Cuevas, of the Autism Center of North Mississippi.

Those bracelets will now be given to clients at the Autism Center.  Special shirts were also sold to raise money for the non profit.
