TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) A Tupelo resident is named a Goodwill Ambassador for the Magnolia State. Patricia Neely Dorsey received a proclamation signed by Governor Phil Bryant, giving her the title.

District 19 State Representative Randy Boyd delivered the proclamation to the Tupelo poet.

Boyd says he was privileged to let Governor Bryant know about Neely-Dorsey’s poetry and how it emphasizes the positive aspects of Mississippi.

“We went down and we talked to the Governor, she talked to him he talked to her, had a great time, they just meshed immediately, he say what a great ambassador she could be for Mississippi,” says Rep. Randy Boyd.

“I’m very passionate about that, there’s so many negative connotations, associated with Mississippi and the south and through my poems and speaking engagements I try to present a positive glimpse of Mississippi,” says Neely-Dorsey.

A move is underway now to have her original work, “Meet My Mississippi” named as the official state poem.
