TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Everyday for the past four years, Travis Hunsicker has tuned in to his favorite radio talk show.  Like many, the Tupelo resident was shocked when he heard of Kraddick’s untimely death this past weekend.

“You feel like you knew the guy so it hits you a lot more personally than you would think when you hear that he passed away<” Hunsicker said.

As Hunsicker listens to the show, which this week has become an opportunity for fans to express their sympathies and memories. He is also making last minute preparations for a trip, made possible through a contest on the Kidd Kraddick show. The contest was called “I have a dream”

Travis’ dream began five years ago when he traveled to Africa’s Mount Kilamanjaro. He came within 1000 feet of scaling the mammoth mountain, when he had to turn back because of altitude sickness. Since then, he’s wanted to go back and try again. This past January, he called into Kraddick’s morning show.

“Travis, your dream is coming true, give it up for Travis. We are sending you back to Tananzia to try again,” Kraddick told him on January 25, 2013.

Since then he’s been training hard, preparing for his second attempt at the summit. Now he has extra motivation.

“Climbing Kilamanjaro has always been a goal of mine since I was young but it means a lot more now with all that’s happened with Kidd passing away and not really knowing what’s going to happen with the show if they are going to continue or not, it gives a more value for me to make the summit ,” he said.

Travis plans to call in to the show as he makes the climb, and when he reaches the summit, he will leave a tribute to the radio host who made it all possible. Travis leaves Saturday for his mission. He should be reaching the summit by august 11th.
