TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) –  Tupelo residents celebrated with hi fives today for its fifth All-American City award given by the National Civic League.

The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted the celebration in the Welcome Center, encouraging citizens to stop by and deliver hi fives to the All- American Team who brought home this prestigious award.

The award is given to 10 communities across the nation every year that exemplify outstanding involvement and is considered the “Grammy of civic engagement.”

Tupelo anticipates that the award will increase support for tourism-related projects and will further the positive image of the city.

“It’s a very prestigious award and I think it just shows anybody whether you live here or not just how involved the people are here in our community and how much we care about each other and that we are just an All-American city and everything that that says.”

The last time Tupelo received this award was in 2011 and is the only city in the south to hold this achievement.
