TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo Public School Board members are taking some time to review goals and hear reports from administrators and staff. The board’s annual work session and retreat began this afternoon and will continue tomorrow morning at Tombigbee State Park.Various data from surveys, scorecards and other information was reviewed this afternoon. Superintendent Dr. Gearl Loden says schools statewide are preparing for the first full year of implementation of the Common Core Curriculum. He says board members will hear how the district is ready.

“Not just as an administrator, but as a parent, we will be focusing more on writing, most people say overall we need to be a better job of writing, children being able to justify their answers and parents will see some changes, but we’ve been preparing enough there won’t be a lot of changes regarding the curriculum,” said Loden.

The work session and retreat wraps up Friday afternoon.
